Amazon Associates and "(paid link)"

If your Amazon links carry your Amazon Associates tag, Amazon asks for two things in every email and page that has one of those links: the words "(paid link)" near each link, and the sentence "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." Penomaly adds the sentence for you, and the notes too if you choose.

Turning it on

Open Settings and find Amazon links. Tick I am an Amazon Associate. A second box appears: Also add "(paid link)" beside each Amazon link. Tick it too if you want the notes beside your links as well as the sentence at the bottom; leave it off to keep your buttons clean. Press Save.

The Amazon links panel in Settings, with I am an Amazon Associate ticked, a Save button, and Track clicks on Amazon links below it

Leave it off if you are not in the Amazon Associates program. The disclosure says you earn a commission, which would not be true.

What it changes

With the switch on, every campaign, automation email, web version and landing page that has an Amazon link gets the disclosure, and the notes if you ticked the second box:

  • "(paid link)" beside each Amazon link (only with the second box ticked), in small type in your text colour. On a button it sits just under the button, so it never reads as part of your button's words.
  • The Associate disclosure at the bottom, just above the footer: "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you click an Amazon link in this email and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you." A landing page says "on this page" instead of "in this email".

Links to Kobo, Apple Books, BookFunnel or anywhere else are left exactly as they are. An email with no Amazon link gets neither.

Amazon's own short links (amzn.to) count as Amazon links.

If you already placed a disclosure

If a campaign already has the affiliate disclosure block in it, Penomaly uses yours, where you put it, and does not add a second one.

With the switch off, Penomaly adds nothing. A disclosure block you placed yourself stays in your email, but no "(paid link)" notes are shown.

Emails already sent

A campaign that has gone out keeps the exact email it was sent with. Changing the switch affects what you preview and send from then on. The web version of a sent campaign follows the switch as it is today.

Counting clicks is a separate choice

Track clicks on Amazon links, just below in Settings, decides whether Amazon clicks are counted in your reports. It does not change the notes or the disclosure, and you can be an Associate with tracking on or off.
